So in addition to coding madness and now
crack_van, much of my week has been wrapped up in writing the epic Sweet Charity fic for
superkappa. Right now I've got, like, three-tenths of it solidly written, and the rest of it is outlined, at least, and just needs a little more work.
But here's the funny part. The only part of the fic that I have completely done is the
ending. I don't know why that is; it's just how I work with really long pieces. I tend to loosely write maybe three or four scenes and then string them along in some chronological order; from there I come up with a place I'd like the fic to end. In this case, I then fleshed out the ending before I went back to the earlier scenes, some of which I then trashed and replaced and some I changed significantly, and some I let be for the moment. It's like I have to establish the end so I don't get too ambitious or out-of-control with the rest of the story.
But that's just how I'm writing
this fic. When I write drabbles or comment-fics I tend to wait until inspiration really strikes and then get the whole thing done at once (I'm going to finish that meme, too, I promise). With longer one-shots, I might write out a draft and return to it three or four times before I consider it done.
And now I'm curious to see how all y'all work on your fic. Here's a poll. Feel free to add anything in the comments. Have fun!

On a completely different note, "glimpses" is a really funny word when you think about it. Say it out loud. "Glimpses." It sounds weird to me now. I can't stop saying it. "Glimpses. Glimpses." It sounds like "limpets."
