Earlier this week I asked for y'all to recommend what you thought was the best you've ever written, which brought an amazing array of fic to the forefront of my reading list. I meant to have them all read and commented-to by now, but some of them are long and my week was too short and I want to make sure I give every story enough attention before reviewing. For now, though, here's a brief round-up:

  • [livejournal.com profile] superkappa recommended Take a Picture, It Would Last Longer, a Zachary Quinto/Kristen Bell RPF. To be honest, I'm still a little skeeved out by RPF in general, and even more so by this fic's premise: ZQ's brother Joe wants to take sexy pics of Zach and Kristen. Weird, right? But thankfully it's not too weird, and if it weren't for the brotherly relationship there I think it would actually be really cute and sweet. As it was, though, it wasn't handled at all awkwardly, so I don't know why I was worried about it turning into something more akin to Petrellicest*. And I can definitely tell why [livejournal.com profile] superkappa would pick this story to represent herself - it's got some of her signature style (I always associate her writing with present-tense, sexy content without being graphic, a playful sort of tone) and it's a fun little fic to boot.

  • [livejournal.com profile] perdiccas recommended See How the Light Shines Through Him, among several others, but this one had the most intriguing title. It's told in staccato-style scenes, just small snippets of scenarios that leave much of the detail to the reader's imagination. It's Sylar/Luke-centric, but I like how the plot follows what could have happened had the Heroes writers continued on with their Underground Railroad storyline. It's got a streak of dark humor to it (for example, Luke won't use his power to reheat tuna casserole), but it's also got an underlying tension that really forces you to keep reading.

  • [livejournal.com profile] aurilly recommended Intersecting Orbits. It's a bit long, so I haven't finished it yet (I think I read it once when I first started reading Heroes fic) but that doesn't mean I won't comment on it! If a story contains the line "Mohinder and Matt were drowning their troubles in beer and spaghetti on West Broadway" you know it's bound to be good, right? And I love it when Matt uses his powers neither for good nor evil, but for teh funneh. My favorite part might be the disclaimer, though.

  • [livejournal.com profile] faded_facade recommended Moments, which is mostly an Arthur/Angela fic with special attention paid to Arthur. To be honest, he's a pretty interesting character, although I think he was short-changed in the show. [livejournal.com profile] faded_facade makes up for that, though, and relies on the graphic novels for some details (I think the GNs are awesome, so maybe I'm a little biased because of that). It's written from Arthur's point of view, describing key scenes from his life and with his family. It's good stuff.

  • [livejournal.com profile] tiptoe39 recommended Legacies, a pretty epic fic that I'm nowhere near finishing. I'm going to have to get further into it before I can comment, methinks.

  • [livejournal.com profile] takhallus recommended Candy, a fic that takes place on Halloween - how timely! It's a Mohinder/Sylar fic with a slightly silly bent (my favorite part is when Mohinder draws a graph... of nothing) but it's exactly like the title would imply - sweet and fun.

  • [livejournal.com profile] moorishflower recommended With Love in Her Eyes, about Virginia Gray in Mohinder's taxi. I've never felt nostalgic for NYC like this and OH MY GOD [livejournal.com profile] moorishflower made Virginia's destination on the SAME STREET AS WHERE MY FIANCE USED TO LIVE. Dude! I love locational awareness in stories and I LOVE IT EVEN MORE WHEN I KNOW THAT LOCATION LIKE WHOA. DUDE. IT HAS INDUCED ME TO CAPSLOCK. The only complaint I would have is you can't really say "Queens, please" and expect a Manhattan cabbie to know where to go. Queens is the biggest fucking place, for serious. Also, Queens Boulevard is almost always crowded. THAT DETAIL IS NOT BELIEVABLE. But whatevs. YOUR FIC MAKES ME YELL.

  • [livejournal.com profile] sarahetc recommended Apsis, which is a really long Firefly fic, so I'ma let you finish, Sarah, but you should know that Malcolm Reynolds was the best spaceship captain of all time.

  • [livejournal.com profile] etoile_dunord recommended Peace by Piece, a WIP**

  • [livejournal.com profile] ever_obsessed recommended Passage, which I've only just started but wow. Hottest femslash ever.

Obviously this is a reading-in-progress, so I'll keep you guys posted when I finish all of these fics. If you missed the initial post, go here and rec yourself, and check out what everyone else suggested!

*Not that there's anything wrong with Petrellicest. I think I'm okay as long as the characters are fictional.

**This review is a WIP. Obviously. Not really, I just posted it all incomplete like that and thought it was funny, so I'm leaving it like that for now. :P
