question

How many people on my flist RP? Is it fun? Is it something I should try? Because I kind of want to play Brittany from Glee, but I've never tried it before.

RP is sort of like tandem writing a fic, although if you do original storylines you often end up creating something rather closer to a miniature novel if your partner and you click. At times it's more fun than writing on your own, because, personally, I think it's interesting to see how other people interpret characters you might be familiar with.

If RP isn't something you've tried before, I would suggest beginning with a private storyline, which is to say between two or maybe three people, instead of going into a community. Communities are harder to work with because you have to have an innate sense of what pleases other people, and you have to be willing to either become mildly acquiescent or 'the resident bitch.' At least, that's my experience. With only one other person (or two), it's easier to get a sense of each other, your respective quirks, the things you do and don't like. And if you end up not clicking, it's very easy to tell a single person that you don't think it's working out. With a comm, unless you leave the game entirely, you have to deal with people who might rattle you if you want to keep playing at all.

Anyways. Tl;dr, RP is fun, but, like [livejournal.com profile] kathrynthegr8t said, avoid people who are too serious about it, and avoid taking it too seriously yourself. :)
