I don't doubt that she's dead, but is she Nathan-Petrelli-dead or Simone-Deveaux dead? And she got totally fridged, I agree - Elle has probably been the most victimized character on the show, which is strange, considering she was always such a badass victim.

I'll admit that some theories are grasping at straws, but speculation is half the fun for me. Then, when things don't turn out the way I expect or want, I can just write fic about it later...
