She worried. She always worried and always had. It wasn't as apparent at first, because she put so much into that carefree facade, but it came apart quickly under duress. Being hunted, living always on the run, a constant cycle of escape and recapture - it wasn't easy on their relationship.

He already knew what she was thinking when she approached him, already knew what she was going to say, so when she uttered the words "I want out," her voice cracking with emotion, he was prepared.

Matt clutched her by the arms, tears in his eyes as their gazes locked. "You have to trust me, Daphne. I know it's hard for you. It's hard for me, too, but we'll be fine as long as we're together. I don't know about tomorrow, but the future is something I do know. It's going to be tough, but we'll be okay in the long run."

Daphne's breath caught in her throat, paralyzed in limbo between a choke and a sob. The tears in her eyes ran down her cheeks in thick, hot drops, and she buried her face into the Matt's chest.

Then I'll trust you, she thought, and Matt reached up and stroked her hair, pulling her a little closer and hugging her a little tighter.

She let him take the lead, and he made love to her slowly, gently, making every moment count. He caressed her softly, as though the lightest touch would break her. He kissed her on her lips, her neck, her shoulder. He lifted her up as though she were a doll, and she wrapped her legs around his waist, leaning into him and sighing.

In the morning, she was gone anyway.
