Please shorten it - I do tend to get a little long-winded. I think I was remembering one of those "I want BETTER feedback!" ranters on fanficrants and thinking "I don't react like that to fanfiction! Hardly ever!"
Another point I just wanted to make about author self-awareness and criticising fanfic - there's got to be people out there who want to say "Hey, I thought your (as in Author X, not you) fic was pretty XYZist who are just a bit too wary/busy/whatever to speak up. But the sort of person who uses, say, the epithet "the paraplegic" to refer to Artie Abrams is hardly likely to include a "Was I ableist?" ticky box on a feedback poll. (Or, for that matter, "Did I use too many epithets?") People always feel more comfortable praising than criticising... but people also need to be hit with the cluebat sometimes, and I don't think the polls would help in that department.
I think I'm saying that polling could too easily be used as a tool to control the feedback an author gets. Fine if it's in the right hands, utterly useless at best if it gets into the hands of the blissfully unaware people who Just Don't Give A Toss.
